I was blog browsing yesterday and came across this blog post. I emailed my uncle for some clarification (simplification) and below was his response. I found it thought provoking and discussion worthy. What are your thoughts?
Basically, Lloyd-Jones says the basic ministry of the church is to bring man and God together, to be the agent of reconciliation. When that is done then all those other ministries of the church, man's education, his walk in holiness, his emotional stability, will occur concurrently. In today's Christian thinking we sometimes get the idea that we go to church to learn about God. That's not exactly right. We should learn about God at church. But we go to Church to WORSHIP God, to have fellowship with Him in corporate worship with one another. To, in my words, renew our reconciliation with Him.
My opinion is much of today's Christianity has lost its sense of worship and thus it has robbed itself of the richness of going to church. Worship is much more than a praise service with a sermon. It is meeting with the Triune God, on His terms, in His presence, and according to His Word. Worship is a dialog between God and His people. He speaks and we respond. In doing so we are drawn closer to Him.

I completely agree. One of the things I love at our church is the Sacrament Meeting we have each week. We take the bread and water in remembrance of Christ's sacrifice and therefore renew our covenants with Him. I look forward to the opportunity to do that each week, and I learn a great deal in the process. Every time I feel that pull to do a little better and to draw closer to God because of that worship and reconciliation. Great post!
