Happy 5th Birthday, Nathan!

Special things about our son...

Notices lots of details in most everything
Always something (tune or thought) going on in his head
Talks and talks and talks...and talks
Happy to water our fruit trees and dry spots for me
Analizes patterns, textures, numbers, letters, and shapes
Never a dull moment when he is around

I have come to learn that not all moms enjoy EVERY age/stage of being a mommy right away--and that it's OK. Some excel in the younger years of their children, some in the later years, and yet some never really find their place (very sad). I have learned things about myself in the last 7 years as a mommy that I did not know or expect. However, Jeff knew, early on.
The love and gratefulness to the Lord for my little guy has always been there. Though, it has taken a long while to understand and appreciate all of Nathan's being, I praise Him for lending Nate to us and trusting us to raise him well.
I have had my fair share of people asking if Jeff and I would have any more children. During some of the early years, I would answer, "No way, what if we get another boy!?" I was so emotionally exhausted with the training that seemed to take twice/thrice! as long with him.
This past month I have to say with all my heart, I would not respond to those probing our personal life with, "No way!" but rather, "We could not ask the Lord for more. Both Jeff and I are very content with what we have been given."

Nathan, as I sit and reflect (b/c I can; you are at school!) your first 5 years the Lord has given you...I love you more and more; my heart over flows! Below are some things that come to mind that you have enjoyed this past year(s)...
  • waking up early to slip into bed with me for a few minutes
  • sitting on the middle stool at the breakfast counter
  • eating 'sugar pillows' (mini shredded wheat). Looking forward to showing you the large ones!
  • playing with candy canes (the BIG one we found at the Dollar Tree last week!)
  • making patterns with your Lego blocks
  • drawing rainbows, garage doors, Christmas lights, and candy canes
  • riding your Razor
  • making chalk dust on the patio or driveway
  • swimming
  • wearing your Crocs
  • using wood molding for 'speed bumps' outside
  • playing with the hose
  • exhaust pipes
  • windshield wipers on the backs of cars
  • chewing gum
  • compartments (treasure chests, ice chests)
  • pre-school with your friends Cameron Sathre, Noah Peck, and Isaiah
  • and ever more your... "blank" with the "trash".

I am proud to be your mother. Praying God's blessings on your life today and always.
I love you dear one,
Momma.
"I will praise Thee for [you] are fearfully and wonderfully made." (Ps. 139:14)

Five years old... amazing.

Love the acrostic!

Great job on the list of reasons why you love Nathan!

p.s. I responded to your comment about the goats... and have a question for you there, too.

TOO cute!! Hey--we know Noah Peck! :) The Pecks were in our high school group when Ryan and I were on staff when we were first married. They hold a special place in our hearts. Happy Birthday Nathan!

Jan,
Just came across your blog and I teared-up when I read your note for Nathan's BD.. My heart swelled with joy! when I read your thoughts to wonderful Nathan. You are so right that every mom has her own special "age" or time with each child. And there are times of "non favorite" moments/periods. But as we struggle through the bad and rejoice in the good, we can see the "whole" picture developing before our eyes< if we take the time to watch carefully. I praise God that He has provided each of my daughters (and daughter-in-law) to have the privelege to stay home with the kiddies.
I love you!
Mom
