Just Passing By

Jeff left for Reno on Thursday...we miss him. Homecoming is tomorrow.
I was "flipping" through some .jpeg family shots, and saw some that you (as a visitor to this blog) may enjoy.

Last year Jeff and I talked about changing Emily's room a bit for her 5th birthday/going into Kindergarten. Well, she turned 5, but we did not put her in Kindergarten, so our plans were laid to rest...for only a few months.
We happened upon a store at our mall that was "going out of business", on our way to look at puppies one Saturday morn in January.

Distracted by a captains bed, I wandered in to the back of the store where they had a white loft bed (bed only displayed) originally marked $899. Next to the white bed, they had the "desk" piece, but were in a dark maple wood. The sales clerk told us that the pieces were $250. When she clarified that it was a "set", I asked if she had both the complete white and dark wood sets in stock. Unfortunately, the bed of the darker set was purchased, and only the desk remained. Fortunately, they had the white set!

We went home not with a puppy, but with a new bedroom set for Emily.

Conveniently, our friends are due soon with their 3rd and only have nursery furniture dating back to 1970! So, I had the grand idea to offer to them Nathan's 3-peice furniture set, move Emily's set into Nate's room, and set up the new furniture for Emily. I did not yet know if our friends would take it, but as long as we were moving stuff...let's move it all!

I had to give Jeff a few hours rest to let the reality of our original lazy Saturday into a work Saturday. I LOVE IT!

After it was 1/2 way going, I realized I did not take "before" shots of the kids rooms to show/compare the differences...sorry.

Here is a shot of Emily's room when she was only a few months old. It's not a great shot. When she was 2 yr. we took the front side of the crib off and lowered the mattress. You will see the look of her "toddler bed" in Nathan's room.

As you will see below, we did not want to take the extra $ and energy to repaint so the money that we saved on the sale of the bed, I went to a local store and got her a new "big" mattress, pad, comforter, sheets/sham, lamp, and organizer drawers. She loved it all, and the above mentioned items were only $200! The curtains remain, along with a white dresser that has been in the family for generations (difficult to see in the photo).

Here is Emily's furniture now in Nathan's bedroom. He was not as thrilled/distracted as I'd hoped...for several nights he whined that his bed was too small. He still sleeps knees and hands tucked into his tummy, so we have a while before he stretches out...I hope.

I am grateful that this all worked out. The new and "new" pieces fit perfectly in their rooms. Now both kids have more floor space, and they saw the value of having an organized space!
